NINE

“That was the future?” I asked. “But—”

“No!” Seraphina and Kaspian both yelled, and then Seraphina finished, “you can’t discuss what you saw in front of others. I’m not sure how you saw that; I’ve never shared a vision before. Discussing it could change the outcome we saw. It is one of many and any of them could come true.”

Seraphina looked down at my glitched hands. Was this another side effect of the glitch? I hid my hands, rubbing them on my legs, trying to ignore what happened.

“What did you need, Seraphina?” Kaspian asked.

“Can you take a look at these documents? They were provided to us by the Production members as their credentials. I want to cross-reference their names with information in our library.”

“I will look into it,” he agreed. Seraphina nodded and left the room. Kaspian looked back at me. “Would you like to help? It might get your mind off everything, and I wouldn’t mind some company.”

“Sure,” I laughed. We searched through the library for a few hours, talking about random things to keep me distracted. We finally found one helpful document, which was a huge book titled “Character and Game Audit” from the previous year. If Bryce was a listed member of my Production team, he would be listed under Duty Falls.

“Here.” Kaspian pointed to Duty Falls. There was Ghost’s Character description, my own, and our listed Producers. Bryce’s name was on there.

“So, he’s legit.” I nodded. “Makes sense considering he could make changes to my code.”

“What about Isa?” Kaspian asked. He dropped the thousand-page manual, which made a loud thud, on the table. “I can’t find her anywhere in here. As a member of IT, she wouldn’t be listed, so there’s no way to check her credentials when our system’s down.”

“I trust Isa,” I said. She was there two years from the last time we saw the Glitch, Bryce wasn’t. She seemed special when she touched Seraphina; I felt warm in my chest. Honestly, I felt like I loved her in that moment.

“Wh—” Kaspian stopped himself as he looked at me. I’m pretty sure his question was ‘why?’ but he knew better than to ask it. I just nodded.

“Tack180,” Eros sang as he entered the library. “Oh, hey, Kaspian. What’s up?”

“Eros.” Kaspian acknowledged. “You may call me Prince Kaspian.”

“You got it, boss. Anyway, T,” Eros started again. “Wait, am I interrupting something?”

“No,” we both said a little too quickly. We were loud and obvious. I looked at Kaspian; I liked spending time with him. I purposefully sought him out when the others were also available.

But I love Ghost, not Kaspian.

“Right,” Eros nodded, trying to hide his smirk. “Well, I came to check on you. I even brought a gift from Nathaniel, but it looks like you’re fine.”

“What do you have from Nathaniel?” I asked. He pulled out the same herbs from the first night. I nodded and smiled. Just what I need.

“It is getting late,” Kaspian said. “I’ll wrap up the research for my sister. You go get some rest.
